Here at MTGG we have been working on a deck that will work consistently and be original in the  standard meta-game. We have been working a little over a month on this deck and have done some pretty hard play-testing and the results have been consistent. We have managed to make a deck that will work well in the meta-game and is something no one else is playing.  But, without further a do here is the decklist.

This deck will far well against any other deck in standard from the testing we have done. The perfect opening hand would probably be: Forest, Plains, Noble Hierarch, Ethersworn Canonist, Birds of Paradise, Basalisk Collar, Beastmaster Ascension. This hand lets you for a second turn Canonist and lock down your opponent from playing more than one spell a turn. this helps you set up your beastmaster ascension. I would advise you all to play this deck it is great deck and will only get better with the coming set Rise of Eldrazi and the new block Scars of Mirrodin. We would like help to get this deck noticed on the pro level of magic. But, we need your help to get it to the top. Earlier today, we were treated to a sneak peek of the upcoming Worldwake Intro Packs, the small expansion set (code named ‘Long’) which is planned to come out in February, 2010.

As we expected, there are five different Intro Packs for Worldwake. Each pack contains a 41-card deck, 1 fixed foil rare, 1 random non-foil rare, 1 Worldwake booster pack, and a mechanics/rules insert.

The original post from a French on-line retailer causes some language translation grief for us but we believe we have the general gist of it now – just a warning – this is not yet official – get the corporate skinny from Wizards when it is released.

WORLDWAKE INTROPACKS

Fangs of the Bloodchief

Vampires: the most dangerous Zendikar predators. These will be what you utilize in the Fangs of the Bloodcheif Deck. With their help, you drain your enemies life points. Some Vampires have a capacity to multikick which makes them grow depending on the amount of mana you spend when you run. Smother is a returning card which can destroy a threat without it being able to regenerate. Many previous expansion cards can improve your Fangs Bloodchief deck such as Vampire Nocturnus which gives +2 / +1 and flying all your vampires as the top card of your deck is black.

Brute Force /

The Brute Force deck gives you the reins of the most titanic monsters of Zendikar. Whats better than to crush your enemy! You can find something to improve the deck’s force in the amazing expansion Worldwake. Great apes peaks is a 5 / 2 creature must be blocked by at least two creatures if you control a mountain, which is almost always the case. A more impressive card is certainly the storm of comets, an instant red inflicting as many wounds as you want as many different things as you want. You’re only limited by the amount of mana you have available!

Grapeshot /

With the Grapeshot deck, you crush the opposition with a sudden avalanche of creatures. The opponent will be dead before they know what is happening! Many of your creatures have capabilities that are triggered when you reach land on the battlefield. In Worldwake you find Kazuul, Tyrant of Cliffs, a brutal ogre who punishes opponents who attack you by generating 3/3 Ogre tokens unless they pay 3 for each attacking creature. You will also discover the Angel of admonition, a creature flying 6/6 Angel which exiles an opponent’s permanent whenever a land comes on the battlefield under your control. These permanent return if the Angel of the admonition leaves the battlefield, but your opponent will not have enough time to before your victory!

Mysterious Realms /

With the Mysterious Realms deck, you unleash on your enemies a horde of dangerous creatures from the wilds of Zendikar. Many of your creatures need room to run. Thanks to landfall, they earn bonuses each time a land comes on the battlefield under your control. In the extension Worldwake you find Explorer, a ritual that lets you draw a card and play an additional land, and therefore potentially triggering your creatures landfall ability twice during the same round. You will also find Zendikar of the Avenger, which creates an 0/1 Elemental creature tokens when it arrives on the battlefield only to grow each turn!

Soaring /

The Soaring deck puts you in command of a squadron of flying creatures. Unleash this aerial reign of terror on your enemies! Creatures with evasion will do the dirty work for you. The extension contains Worldwake other compatible cards with the Soaring deck . The Zendikar wind transforms a land into an extra flying creature extra for air force. The Merfolk of Seijiri is a blue creature that becomes more powerful if you control a plains, which is almost always the case. Jace, Mind Sculptor is a Planeswalker powers of mental confusion that you can call your side. He mills your’s opponent’s library and eventually exiles it to fully guarantee victory.

Jund Aggro

The ominous cloud that looms over the current standard meta-game can be describe by one word, Jund! it’s the deck that everyone is playing and everyone else hates. We look for ways to bet it was to get around it, but today here at Magic The Gathering Games we analyze it.. That’s right folks, here is the breakdown on the Jund aggro for the first time here on MTGG.

The Powerhouse

Bloodbraid Elf- This card is just mean a 3/2 with cascade and haste. Is there anything it can’t do!

Broodmate Dragon- This cards is awesome two 4/4’s for 6 now that’s amazing!

Great Sable Stag – Can’t be countered and protection from blue and black. That works for me.

Putrid Leech- One of the staples of the deck its a great attacker and blocker.

Sprouting Thrinax- A great blocker, if he dies you get more blockers.

Removal

Bituminous Blast-  Great removal  and it has cascade.

Blighting- I love this card! Damage and discard all in one.

Lighting Bolt- 3 damage for 1 mana does it get better than that.

Maelstrom Pulse- This card can destroy a vast amount of things and remove any huge problems you have.

Resounding Thunder-3 damage for 3 mana and a nice cycling ability to.

Ways to Win

Spread Em’ – This deck beats Jund beacuse it locks down Jund’s mana  base and renders it useless

Naya Lightsaber- This deck beats jund because it just out aggro’s it.

Green/Red Elves

Want a deck with speed?  Want a deck that’s aggressive?  Want a deck that can beat Jund? Well then this deck might be for you!  This vicious version of an elf deck is quite fast. It features several of the power cards in standard and uses several planeswalkers. Although this deck is a little costly all in all its an amazing deck. I’ve seen this deck beat Jund plenty of times and that seems like what everyone is playing. I think this deck would be worth your time and money to play and experiment with.

The Powerhouse

Bloodbraid Elf – This card is just mean a 3/2 with cascade and haste. Is there anything it can’t do!

The Mana Producers

Elvish Archdruid – It boost your elves and taps for massive amounts of mana!

Druid of the Anima -  This card taps for mana of both colors you need.

Llanowar Elves – The classic mana producer.

Card Draw

Elvish Visionary – This card is great to help speed up the deck.

Planeswalkers

Nissa Revane – Nissa is the best bet for any elf deck now. Her abilities are specifically tuned for them.

Garruk Wildspeaker – Perfect for this deck not only is he a walking overrun, he helps speed up your mana.

Sarkhan Vol – Another great choice he can haste your creatures to help the aggro.

Chandra Nalaar – Chandra is great for removal she can burn your opponent or their creatures.

The Deck Test

Elves -Vs-Vamps

The elves vs vampires games we played were pretty close. We played three game sand I won two out of the three. The speed of this deck was jsut fast enough to get through before he could establish the game winning board position he needed. First game i dominated by fourth turn he was under ten so I felt good about that. Second game he won. I was mana screwed and jsut wasn’t seeng the cards i would have liked. Thrid game was pretty well a repeat of the first no chance for the vamps really.

Elves  -Vs-  Naya lightsaber

Once again these where close games and I really enjoyed them. I won again but the games were close. Thje first game there was no competition I won because he was mana screwed quick game and we moved to the next. Second game I lost because well he had the speed on his side and I wasn’t able to quite keep up seemed like I was a step behind the whole game. I just didn’t see what I needed. third game we both played well but i got out the archdruid second turn and was producing massive mana after words and just kept cranking from there.

Elves  -Vs- Spreading Seas

Well finally a deck a blew way. With most the mana in this deck being green and it having very stable mana base, there was no chance for the seas deck to lock me down. I destroyed them both games. they tried to lock down a few lands but as soon as i got out the archdruid each game it was over. That’s all there as to it.

Cruel Control

It seems these days people want to see ways to hate on Jund. A lot of people are also running control decks, well here is a combo of both this deck hates on Jund and it’s a great control deck. There are a ton of good choices in this deck and I would definitely give this deck a try if you like the control game. Now there are several variants of this deck so feel free to experiment with some different choice and find what works for you. With that said here is the break down.

The Deck List

Here is the breakdown and reasons why to play the deck :

Lots of Removal

The best way to mess with the opponent

Lighting Bolt – everyone knows the card and 3 damage for 1 mana equals a huge pay out

Terminate – For two mana kill anything does it get any better than that

Cruel Ultimatum – The bomb of the deck this card is huge and cost seven but its definitely worth it.

Counters

To you I say “NO!”

Negate – this card is a great counter it gets rid of any non-creature for 2 mana.

Double Negative – this card is amazing for3 you can get rid of those pesky cascades.

Card Draw

just a little speed

Jace Beleren – This planeswalker is a great card draw engine and for only 3 mana can you pass it up.

Divination – Just some more card draw.

Into the Roil – a card that can bounce something and give you card draw now that’s nice.

Late Game

The fun part

Nicol Bolas – This planeswalker is just tons fun to play with.

Sphinx of Jwar Isle – The one creature in the deck, it wins games.

FIRST DECK REVIEW

Hello and welcome to the first deck review here at MTGG, I’m Matt and I will be the person in charge of deck reviews here on MTGG. The deck I’ll be reviewing today is a real interesting deck, its called spread em’ and its a deck that looks to smashes the meta game. With many of the top deck centered on fragile mana bases this deck looks to hit them where it counts. It aims to obliterate top decks such as, I don ‘t know “Jund” the beast that’s storming through standard at the moment. But, for a Jund player,what good is two maelstrom pulses in hand if they don’t have the mana to play them. This deck looks to really screw with them but lets see how!

Here is a look at the deck and an in depth analysis:

THE HOLD DOWN CARDS

these cards are used to hold your opponent at bay

Spreading Seas & Convincing Mirage: these are the key to victory in this deck

Day of Judgment: What better than some good old mass removal

Ajani Vengeant: this in my opinion is one of the best planeswalker and it fits this deck to the T.

CASCADE FOR SPEED

self explanatory

Ardent Plea: a great three cost cascade/exalted enchantment for three which is perfect to get the mirage.

Bloodbraid Elf: the best cascade card and it only feeds off the ardent plea and also gets the mirage.

Captured Sunlight: gain 4 life and cascade are we seeing the pattern.

POWER CREATURES

for the late game sweep

Sphinx of Jwar Isle: a nasty little card at 5/5 and a flying with shroud, this can win the late game.

Sphinx of the Lost Truth: a 3/5 flyer with card advantage what more do you need to finish the game.

THE SIDEBOARD

aka plan: B

Wall o f Reverence: This is a life saver for those nasty Boros decks that are floating around

Deft Duelist: 2/1 first strike and shroud for to this is the card to hide behind for Boros.

Baneslayer Angel: Is there really anything else to say its the best card in standard!

Rhox Warmonk: life-gain is the only way to go against aggro for this deck and here is the answer!

THE BREAKDOWN

If you haven’t figured it out at this point, the idea of the deck is stall jund and the other fragile mana decks. This buys you time to set up some defense and pound away. Now as many of you can tell the main deck is very vulnerable to Boros. There is an answer for that the side board is designed just for this. You really need to rely on the life gain side board against those decks and side board out the hold down cards and really push the life gain. This is the only way to get ahead of them.

So this is the plan in a normal match up. Early game you have to set up the hold downs these will be critical to your win. By third turn you want to play ardent plea to get another mirage. To flow this up you want to lay a Bloodbraid to get another plea or mirage. This sets you up to be swinging for five by fourth turn and just keep cranking from there.

Against Boros we switch this up a little, we want to side board out the hold downs even though this is the deck idea the better way to play when facing a strong mana’ed aggro is to switch in the Wall of Reverence, the Rhox Warmonk, and the Deft Duelist. The new idea is to play the duelist early and from there keep cranking out the life gain. This could possibly be one of the better new decks out there and it just takes some good piloting and know how to play it.

Now here are the results of the decks test me and my good friend Zach preformed. In the test we found this deck to preform very solidly with easy victories over decks such a Jund and Boros. We enjoyed playing this deck but it did have a slight down turn, it had a slight trouble dealing with those pesky vampires you run into every once in awhile. But overall this deck is solid and will offer consistent wins against the current meta game staples. Here is the overview of how that went.

Spread em’ -Vs- B/R Vamp’s

This deck took an early advantage in both games we played, as it should. I ran into a couple problems along the way though. Blighting hurt my chances of any card advantage and had me playing on top decks. This was very frustrating and I feel lead to my demise. The other then that went against me bad was the Vampire Nighthawk and Doom Blade. This deck runs on very few creatures and those to seemed to keep them at a very very low level of play time. In the end I lost to this deck but we had to very close matches, which we both enjoyed.

Record = 0-1

Spread em’ -Vs- Jund

The news we’ve all been waiting for… this deck easily beat Jund. Early lays of spreading seas flowed by ardent plea really started off the beat down on Jund the first game. Before my 8^th turn I had them ready to scoop with there lands locked down and a Bloodbraid hit for five due to Ardent Plea. The second game was a quick repeat but there was a huge moment in this game. We experienced the best cascade we could have hoped for. It began with me playing a Bloodbraid Elf, it cascaded into Ardent Plea, which cascaded into Spreading Seas, that draw gave me Convincing Mirage and so for six mana I locked down two land and had a creature that was hitting for five due to Ardent Plea. So in the end this was a easy match up.

Record = 1-1

Spread em’ -Vs- Boros Aggro

Boros was a challenge with the standard Spread em’ layout I had some difficulties, but I won. Boros had a few bad draws and I got lucky is what I came down to but I won after I locked down most there land and pounded with Bloodbraid Elf . The next game I swapped out my hold down cards for my life gain and easily won again. Things seemed to fall in place smoothly for this deck. I enjoyed playing it and had lots of fun.

Final Record = 2-1
